Sep. 4 —The Hampstore, Kern Cafe, and Bridge Cafe now require students to present their OneCard at the register in order to make purchases using Hamp Dollars or Dining Dollars.
Previously, students have been able to recite their Student ID number aloud to the cashier, instead of presenting their OneCard physically.
According to HampStore employee Jill Gagne, this change was handed down from higher on the administrative ladder.
Gagne speculated that the change was to prevent accidental charges to student accounts, because students reading their numbers aloud may misremember their number and the cashier may mishear, or misinput the numbers.
