Sep. 18 — The Hampshire College Gallery opened its first exhibition of the year, “Thresholds of Accumulation and Imperceptibility” by Sarah Stefana Smith on Friday, September 20th.
The exhibition features sculptural art made using “barrier materials” like deer and bird netting, fiberglass screens, plastic webbing, and fishing nets and explores both the effects of these “barrier materials” have on the environment, and how boundaries like race and gender define our experiences.
The artist, Sarah Stefana Smith, holds a PhD in Social Justice Education from the University of Toronto, an MFA in Interdisciplinary Art from Goddard College, and a BA in Sociology and Anthropology. They are currently an Assistant Professor of Gender Studies at Mount Holyoke College.
A reception will be held in the Gallery on September 20th from 5 to 7PM.
The installation will be on view through November 8th.
