The festival replaces the New Playwrights Festival, which was canceled on October 7th.
Oct. 18 — A 24-Hour Play Festival is set to begin at 7pm tonight, where participants will write new original play scripts overnight, rehearse, and then finally perform at 7pm on Saturday evening.
The event is organized by student Isaiah Woods, F21, after the New Playwrights Festival was canceled during a production meeting on October 7th. Woods had written a piece for the New Playwrights Festival, and as it became clear that the festival would not continue as originally planned due to time constraints, they proposed replacing it with a 24-hour play festival, but couldn’t get sufficient buy-in from other participants.
Woods is now independently organizing the festival with the support of the Hampshire College Theatre Board, giving them access to the Studio Stage space in Emily Dickinson Hall.
Students interested in writing and/or performing can simply show up in EDH at 7pm tonight.
Students interested in seeing the performance tomorrow can get free tickets here.
