New Leaf to hold ‘Pesca de la Fortuna’ benefit raffle

Event will benefit grassroots effort to create native plant lawns on campus.

Oct. 18 — Student environmental club New Leaf is hosting a fundraising event called Pesca de la Fortuna (Lucky Fishing) during Friends and Family Weekend.

Set for Sunday, October 20th at the Merrill Gazebo, attendees will be able to raffle for various items donated by the community on a sliding scale of $1 to $5 dollars.

Proceeds from the event are intended for the student effort to create native plant lawns on campus, replacing the monoculture lawns that occupy much of the grounds. Started by Ike Rubin, F22, at the beginning of the semester, the project aims to support the local ecosystem and build connections between new and old students.

Donations of items for the fundraiser are being collected at the Dakin SLC, Prescott Tavern, and Wellness Center. Questions about donations and the event itself can be directed to Zanzy Rice-Reeves, F22 at [email protected].
