Feb. 28 — On January 30th, the Student Advocacy Board’s Affinity Sector released a statement offering support and solidarity to students affected by the Trump administration’s efforts to roll back DEIA initiatives and engage in mass deportations and ICE raids.
Kenine Dieuveuil, F21, who leads the Affinity Sector as SAB Affinity Representative, said in the statement: “I want to reaffirm my commitment to advocating for and supporting all students, especially those impacted by these policies. Now, more than ever, we must come together, share resources, and support one another.”
Rep. Dieuveuil encouraged students to attend the SAB’s weekly open meetings, held at 7pm on Tuesday in Kern 108, to get involved & receive support.
Rep. Dieuveuil ended her statement saying “Together, we will continue to fight for justice, protect our community, and ensure that every student—regardless of background—has the opportunity to thrive.”
Race & Ethnicity Representative Cherish McNeil, F21, echoed Rep. Dieuveuil’s sentiments, adding that “[The Trump administration’s] objective is to instill fear, to keep us in a state of panic—because fear weakens our ability to resist,” and urged BIPOC students to reach out to her via email with any concerns, questions, and thoughts. Rep. McNeil ended her part of the statement saying “You are not alone. You are valued, loved, and supported. I am here for you.”
Queer Students Representative Blaise Paine, F23, echoed Rep. Dieuveuil’s statement, and added that the Hampshire Hangout Discord server now has a channel dedicated to reporting ICE activity in the state.
